You're probably the lucky one. Where I come from, people who play small&safe are taught to be smart by their parents.. Which usually means pretending you don't know there's a body buried in your backyard because you don't want to be the next one in that pit. Everyone's existentially blackmailed into pretending their livelihood doesn't hang on a thread held by corrupt nationalists, so they don't ruffle any feathers out of fear for their future and their children.
