There's something in the gay community that's the problem of our own making which enforces the flurry of harmful stereotypes l:
1. Overly focusing on physical appearance that creates compartmentalisation instead of unity
2. An openly promiscuous behaviour that paints us all as sluts with disturbing sexual fetishes
3. Dating apps with a dozen identification categories that make it all too confusing
4. Sexual racism, with people openly verbalising dislike of certain races.
5. Political discrimination and nationalism: Russian gays are discriminated against on dating apps because they're from the "wrong country".
6. TV shows like Queer Eye create an oversimplified, shallow image of gay people obsessed with shallow stuff like fashion
7. Instead of promoting the idea of the unity of human beings regardless of their identity, we just add more and more letters to the abbreviation. Completely counterproductive.
Basically, there are and always will be, homophobic bigots. But certain things are up to us. Gay people don't have to look like Jonathan van Ness to be expressive about their personality. A gay friend avoids pride parades because he'd prefer one where you don't have to wear a feather boa to feel visible.
