The American dream is the main reason people end up so frustrated and feeling like losers because those who are propagated as it's embodiment usually come from showbusiness or families with money. Let's be honest - the dream should actually be "don't be homeless" because it's the reality of many people. On the other hand, it's much easier to stay in your comfort zone and stick with the program that gives you a stable income. Which is just as legitimate because you don't need to make so many compromises, morally abd financially. The dream that America sells you is about Frank Sinatra's New York, where if you can make it, you can do it anywhere. The painful truth is that he's right: if you don't live in LA or New York, it's unlikely you'll make it big in acting because that's where all the action is. I know about people who were gifted with an exquisite ability to write genuine literature but stuck in small communities which didn't really care for it. In the end, it led to depression, anxiety and alcoholism. But they did have a day job, still it didn't matter. That's the harsh truth as well. If you don't dedicate your whole life to your talent no matter the price, it's just time well wasted.
