That might be one of the reasons people are confused with identities, pronouns etc. A part of those people are bigoted haters but many are just confused and don't want even more complications than there already are. For example, in my language a word like "cousin" refers only to males and "uncle" refers only to your dad's brother. That's why I find languages so fascinating.
