It's easy: if you've got a family and kids who need decent clothes on their backs, regular food on the table and an education, you're much less likely to take big risks. Freedom is when you have nothing to lose in the sense that it affects only you. On the other hand, if you can't provide for yourself, that's a problem because it's all about compromises. I know people whose private business income is never in tune with their contribution to the community but that tends to be the case when you're passionate about what you do. Here you need to join nationalist political parties and keep your head down if you want a stable job in the system. You watch people selling out for whatever they can get and make sure to never upset the big dogs. But that kind of freedom is based on fear, compliance and ignorance. That's the one pill too bitter to swallow.
