I work with lots of American tourists here in Southeastern Europe and the guy has a point. Only a part of them have a passport and many of them think Paris is the capital as if Europe is a single country. The questions they ask you indicate they've got a very vague idea of what the real world outside USA looks like. And those are usually well-off since they stay in good hotels. They tip city guides which is great but the level of their knowledge about the country they're visiting is apalling. A great indication of the average quality of the American education system.
