I think this is the best possible PR stunt for his campaign. When he gets released (rich people usually do, unless they're Harvey Weinstein), he'll be cast as a martyr and the victim of the system. His voters will lap it up and if he runs, he'll knock out all other contenders for the nomination. The first time he was running as a sidekick joke, and this time as a victim, it's an almost flawless technique. And it works everywhere, not just the US. In popular politics your CV is unimportant if your personality is big enough, and his certainly is. It's all about the "X" factor.
