I think it's a great idea to occassionally behave like a tourist in your home town: so many locals have rarely (if ever) been to our local museums, they don't know interesting backstories about places they pass by every day and in order to love your city, you need to learn more about it. I would recommend, if you can afford it, to spend a night at one of the city's hotels, and immerse yourself in the full experience.
