I beg to differ. Unless you do something else for living, you need to put some basic marketing skills into your communication for others to reach (and pay) you. Early in my career I used to send my stuff everywhere until I got signed up by a major publisher. I no longer work for those who tell you "I can't pay you but it's good for your PR".
