Don't buy the affirmative action crap they're trying to sell you. They don't care about diversity and inclusion unless it benefits the social credibility of their brand. In the end it comes down to money: unless you can pay for a seat at that table, you're out. It's as simple as that. Everyone should have a shot at the apple but a PhD can't fix a leaking sink, so don't treat higher education as a holy grail: all you're left with in the is a mountain of debt unless you land a good job. If you fit into a box they're trying to tick, you'll get a chance. Just don't be fooled into thinking that it's because you're very smart.
